The Funisia dorothea is the first known animal species to use sexual reproduction.

Sexual reproduction appears to have shown up in a red algae, Bangiomorpha pubescens, quite a bit earlier (1.2 Billion Years ago)

And since we are on the subject, check out the etymology of “Bangiomorpha pubescens” from Neatorama:
