Universities often patent their students’ inventions, denying the student the use of them on the grounds that the invention was created using University resources; however, students pay to go to these Universities and the Federal government supports them with tax-dollars. There’s a good debate on Slashdot about this.
I know that the clickers most likely increase student understanding, but it seems that most teachers I have met use them really don’t care to use them as an understanding method, but more so as an attendance method for a large class. That way they can have a small % of the final grade going towards attendance/class participation. Unfortunately, all of them have also tend to give you less class participation if you got the answer wrong, despite it usually being asked about something you just learned.
Which is silly. But hey, the majority of my classes now until I graduate I think wont use them so, hurrah!
