August 20th, 2008For geeks, this is news is more tremendous than if archeologists were to discover Alexander the Great’s Tomb.

I’ve previously written about Metropolis, a 1927 silent film that lost a full quarter of its footage to entropic forces; and, yet, still manages to be one of the greatest, most epic of science fiction films ever made. In 2003, a digitally remastered version of the film was released, with a newly recorded score and text describing what was happening in the missing footage, revealing a much more complex and profound plot.
Now the missing 20 minutes of footage have been found, and the next step will be to restore and release a new edition of the film.
So, having bought the film on VHS, DVD, and digitally-restored DVD, I’ll looking forward to getting my eager hands on a copy of the digitally-restored director’s cut DVD. : )

Hmmm….new spam detection for comments? Is it working?
Last semester I took a Sci-Fi class and the first film we talked about was Metropolis. Interesting film. Very long. The musical score provided a lot of comical relief. You can really appreciate it, especially for its time.
The anti-spam plugin isn’t doing diddly-squat. The bot don’t use the comments form, apparently they submit directly to the PHP file that processes the comments. I’m drowning in spam behind the scenes of this blog.
On the plus side, the science question does appear to have stumped the global-warming skeptics. : )
Haha. Have you seen the WP-SpamFree plugin? Here’s the link:

The guy made it because he was getting tired of all the false-positives from Askimet. I just installed it and seems to be working well. In fact you can double it up with Askimet since it uses a completely different method.
Thanks so much Sour Swinger! I’ve disabled the human-validator and have installed this one. Hopefully it’ll save me having to sort through 100s of spam comments every day. Even if I just have to deal with the bots that use the form, I would be okay with it.
So bad news with that plugin. It worked so great that no one could comment. I didn’t realize it until Clint emailed me to say he couldn’t post. I tried from a different computer and found the same thing. Have you run into this issue? I’ve checked their support and I seem to be the only one suffering this issue.
I installed it last night and I’ve gotten four legitimate comments since then, and only one comment in my spam folder. It seems like a resounding success for me. I hope it stays that way since I’d hate to go back to the way things were. Thanks for the tip. I hope you can get it working since it’s such a relief.
