  • There are so many times I could have used this feature, Google Maps has added walking directions, but I doubt they’ll give you the shortcut through your neighbor’s backyard.

    1. Joke? It was marketing… I don’t think it was meant to be funny necessarily, just memorable. I think the were tying in the “whose your daddy” with “we are the world (we are the children)”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INwB0BWVDnM

      BTW, I find it funny when Michael Jackson sings the “we are the children” part in that video…

    2. When I tested the google walking yesterday, it gave me the exact same directions as the drive. Yet there was a MUCH more direct way. Incidentally, the driving directions are closer to 15 min vs the 9min or so it takes me to go the backroad way. So it failed on both accounts. It’s not like the backroads aren’t on the map, and it would definitely be faster walking. Fail.


    3. The mystery has been solved. Apparently what google map walking directions do, is simply ignore one way streets.
