I've read that paper! It's great! Instead of just being the musings of some mathematician or philosopher, it actually argues Quantum Physics as data in a very convincing manner. It's still all just speculation, but you're right, speculation with legs.

Your MMORPG+NPC theory has some serious legs to it. There is a peer-reviewed paper on this very topic (though, it doesn't seem to address the NPC aspect of your theory):

http://www.boingboing.net/2008/01/07/our-universe-as-virt.html

"If the universe were a virtual reality, its creation at the big bang would no longer be paradoxical, as every virtual system must be booted up."

Ah, I was referring to the Creationist argument that fossils exist because god put them there to test our faith. I personally starting to believe this is all just one big MMORPG, and I'm an NPC put here for someone else's amusement. I wouldn't be as convincing if I didn't think I was alive and autonomous of the program.

Why would God need to be very deceptive? I tend to think we can't hear the music because we are too focused on the instruments.

Why can't the creationists just say "Well, God created evolution, so THERE" and be done with all this nonsense once and for all?
