I loved Sunshine, and managed to catch it in the theater. The smart dialog and setup was a cheerful departure from the usual treatments these sorts of movies get. I also enjoyed how much research went into the depictions of the Sun (it being the main character, after all).

The ending was a bit... strange. But it didn't bother me too much.

Sorry about that. Your comments got flagged as spam. I've restored them. Thanks for posting the link. Although I post everything of substance I find in the news, I do realize most of it has yet to be subjected to the rigors of peer-review. I look forward to reading RealClimate's observations.

Roger Ebert's review of Sunshine included Brian Cox's insights, which, despite Ebert's lukewarm review, made me want to see the film even more.

Interestingly my colleague who developed and set up the Sunearthplan.net website was invited to an advance screening of Sunshine to see if he wanted to tie it in with IHY. Bizarrely, the science advisor on the film was Brian Cox, a particle physicist who is something of a media darling (and good for him as well) rather than any of the true solar physicists we have here in the UK. I wonder if that should have given us advance warning.

Also comment of mine on one of your posts seems to have disappeared into the ether, it was about the recent Nature paper (I think) about climate change and makes the point that the reporting on it has drawn slightly unbalanced conclusions such that the arctic melt is likely still attributed to CO2 increases as well as other factors.
