  • Take a moment to look up in the sky tonight for the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Quadrantid Meteor Shower.
  • To quoth The Graduate: “I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Are you listening?” Implants. That’s an interesting bit of futurist speculation from the guy who designed Bladerunner and Tron.
  • The OLPC Foundation is facing a $20 Million Patent Suit over their multi-lingual keyboard. I’m not worried since the OLPC keyboard is too small for anyone with hands larger than a 12-year-old’s to use anyway.
  • The world’s Helium supplies are running out, meaning bad news for scientific research.
  • The genes responsible for an hereditary form of colon cancer might be traceable to a married couple who moved to America around 1630. Damn immigrants!!!
  • The CBC Podcast How to Think About Science sounds absolutely fascinating. Too bad I love my computer too much to infect it with Real Audio’s crap Software.
  • A scientists is researching the incorporation of Salmon Sperm to Intensify the Properties of LEDs.
  • Finally, ABC cards for Nerd Babies.
  • Science ABCs

    1. RealAudio is barely an infection.. You remove the startup bullshit, and it’s only there when you need it. Taking up 0% of your resources at all other times. You might also want to try MediaPlayerClassic (aka RealAlternative) — it handles video, so it would probably handle audio. (I don’t have RealPlayer installed — yet — but would if I needed it… Fortunately MediaPlayerClassic only fails if RealVideo upgrades their codec, which is very infrequent these days.)
