September 27th, 2007- A fun and insightful way to look at abstract concepts in general, check out the “Mathematics of Global Warming.”
- With the grand opening of their DRM-Free MP3 store, we have proof that Amazon gets it.
- Tardigrades, or Water Bears, are to become the first animal exposed directly to space unprotected. I look forward to seeing how these extremeophiles do in a complete vacuum while being bombarded by intense solar radiation.
- Pure Water Planets, Pure Iron Planets, Pure Hydrogen Planets… scientists are coming up with models of weird worlds to help identify exoplanets in the future.
- Satelite-Tracked Crocodiles Travel Hundreds of Miles Home. Steve Irwin, Discovery Channel’s late Croc Hunter, contributed to this fascinating research, which now presents an obstacle for conservationists to overcome in relocating these animals.
- Although the satellite searches failed to find Steve Fossett, they did turn up several other plane wrecks. This brings up the possibility of using armchair searches to find other things, like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster
- Filed under “Makes you think,” Scientific Indian, has a great, very short essay Human Skin: the shopping bag for biological evolution.

Important correction made by ichthyes on my misuse of the term extremophile:
Extremophiles are micro-organisms which thrive (not just survive) in extreme conditions. Tardigrades only survive these extreme environmental conditions due to a state of suspended animation.
Peer-reviews/corrections are always welcomed.

I like the 1GB picture! I now have over 1,000 times the harddrive space I had exactly 10 years ago.
